Tharai Thappattai is a 2016 Tamil-language Action Drama motion picture written and directed by Bala and produced by Sasikumar and Bala. Tharai thappattai features Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including M. Sasikumar, G.m. Kumar, R.k. Suresh, Satish Kaushik, Kingmoohan and Amudhavaanan. The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Cinematography was done by Chezhiyan and editing by G. Sasikumar. It was released on 14th January 2016. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Ayngaran International Media. At the 2016 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Music Direction. At the 2017 It also won an award for Best Actress - Critics (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar). Sannasi, a folk musician, convinces Sooravali, his lover and a female dancer in his troupe, to marry Karuppaiah, a seemingly docile man. Little do they realise the sinister intentions of Karuppaiah, but when they do it is too late.
