The Astronaut Farmer is a 2007 English-language Adventure Drama film written by Mark Polish and Michael Polish. The movie is directed by Michael Polish and produced by Len Amato, Mark Polish, Michael Polish and Paula Weinstein. A NASA astronaut (Thornton), forced to retire years earlier so he could save his family farm, has never given up his dream of space travel and looks to build his own rocket, despite the government's threats to stop him. The astronaut farmer features Billy Bob Thornton in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Virginia Madsen, Bruce Dern, Tim Blake Nelson, Max Thieriot, Jasper Polish and Logan Polish. The music was composed by Stuart Matthewman. Cinematography was done by M. David Mullen and editing by James Haygood. The film has a running time of 104 minutes. It was released on 23rd February 2007. The Astronaut Farmer was made on a budget of $13 million and at the box office it grossed only $11 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Warner Bros. Pictures.
