The Book Thief is a 2013 English-language Drama War film written by Markus Zusak and Michael Petroni. The movie is directed by Brian Percival and produced by Karen Rosenfelt and Ken Blancato under the banner of Fox 2000 Pictures in collaboration with Sunswept Entertainment, Studio Babelsberg and TSG Entertainment. While subjected to the horrors of World War II Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. In the basement of her home, a Jewish refugee is being protected by her adoptive parents. The book thief features Geoffrey Rush in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Emily Watson, Sophie N Lisse, Roger Allam, Sophie Nelisse, Heike Makatsch and Julian Lehmann. The film is based on The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner John Williams. Cinematography was done by Florian Ballhaus and editing by John Wilson. The film has a running time of 130 minutes. It was released on 27th November 2013 in English and German languages. The Film was successful at box office. The Book Thief was made on a budget of $19 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $76 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by 20th Century Fox.
