The Color Purple is a 1985 English-language Drama motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Quincy Jones under the banner of Amblin Entertainment. This film follows the life of Celie, a young black girl growing up in the early 1900's. The first time we Celie, she is 14 - and pregnant - by her father. We stay with her for the next 30 years of her tough life.. Written by Colin Tinto. The color purple stars Danny Glover, Adolph Caesar, Margaret Avery, Rae Dawn Chong, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Madison T. Shockley Sr. The screenplay is written by Menno Meyjes which is inspired from The Color Purple by Alice Walker. The music was composed by Quincy Jones. Cinematography was done by Allen Daviau and editing by Michael Kahn. The movie has a running time of 153 minutes. It was released on 7th February 1986. The Film was successful at box office. The Color Purple was made on a budget of $15 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $98 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Warner Bros.
