An interesting biographical drama The Dig is set in the year 1938 on the eve of world war II. When a British widow named Edith Pretty finds peculiar formations on her land she decides to hire an archaeologist who can tell her what it is by digging it up, this leads to the discovery of the world's greatest find Sutton Hoo. The film stars Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James, Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin, Ken Stott, Archie Barnes, and Monica Dolan. Principal photography began in Shackleford, Surrey, the United Kingdom in October 2019 and the filming took place in Suffolk which is near to the original discovery site. The screenplay was written by Moira Buffini and it was directed by Simon Stone. The film was produced by Gabrielle Tana, Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Murray Ferguson, and Ellie Wood for Netflix and was distributed by Netflix. Initially, Nicole Kidman was cast but later she was replaced by Carey Mulligan. The music was composed by Stefan Gregory. Adept cinematography by Mike Eley and clear cut editing by Jon Harris makes it a watchable movie. The film was released on 29 January 2021. A PG-13 certificate for the movie was provided by the MPAA.
