The Fortress is a 2017 Korean-language Action Drama film directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The Fortress was produced under the production house Siren Pictures. In 1636, the Qing dynasty attacks Joseon. King Injo and his retainers, including Choi Myung-kil and Kim Sang-hun, hide in the mountain fortress city of Namhansanseong. They are isolated from the outside. Meanwhile, Choi Myung-kil insists that they enter into negotiations with the Qing dynasty, but Kim Sang-hun proposes that they keep fighting. The fortress features Lee Byung-hun in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Kim Yoon-seok, Byung-hun Lee, Yun-seok Kim, Hae-il Park, Soo Go and Hee-soon Park. The screenplay is written by Hwang Dong-hyuk which is inspired from Namhansanseong by Kim Hoon. The music was composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Cinematography was done by Kim Jee-yong and editing by Nam Na-yeong. The motion picture has a running time of 139 minutes. It was released on 3rd October 2017 in Korean and Manchu languages. The movie made a box office gross of $29 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by CJ Entertainment.
