The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 English-language Adventure Drama film written by William Goldman and directed by Stephen Hopkins and produced by Gale Anne Hurd, Paul B. Radin and A. Kitman Ho under the banner of Constellation Films in collaboration with Douglas/Reuther Productions. A bridge engineer and an experienced old hunter begin a hunt for two lions after they start attacking local construction workers. The ghost and the darkness features Michael Douglas in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Val Kilmer, Tom Wilkinson, John Kani, Bernard Hill, Brian Mccardie and Emily Mortimer. The movie is based on The Man-eaters of Tsavo by John Henry Patterson. The music was composed by Jerry Goldsmith. Cinematography was done by Vilmos Zsigmond and editing by Robert Brown, Roger Bondelli and Steve Mirkovich. The movie has a running time of 110 minutes. It was released on 6th February 1996. The Ghost and the Darkness was made on a budget of $45 million and at the box office it grossed only $38 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Paramount Pictures. At the 1997 Oscar Awards It won an award for Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing.
