The Phantom of the Opera is a 1925 Silent-language Horror movie directed by Rupert Julian, Lon Chaney and Ernst Laemmle and produced by Carl Laemmle under the banner of Jewel Productions. At the Opera of Paris, a mysterious phantom threatens a famous lyric singer, Carlotta and thus forces her to give up her role (Marguerite in Faust) for unknown Christine Daae. Christine meets this phantom (a masked man) in the catacombs, where he lives. What's his goal ? What's his secret ? Written by Yepok. The phantom of the opera features Lon Chaney in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Norman Kerry, Mary Philbin, Arthur Edmund Carewe, Gibson Gowland, John St. Polis and Snitz Edwards. The screenplay is written by Walter Anthony, Elliott J. Clawson, Bernard McConville, Frank M. McCormack, Tom Reed, Raymond L. Schrock, Jasper Spearing and Richard Wallace which is inspired from The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. The music was composed by Gustav Hinrichs. Cinematography was done by Milton Bridenbecker, Virgil Miller and Charles Van Enger and editing by Edward Curtiss, Maurice Pivar, Gilmore Walker and Lois Weber. The motion picture has a running time of 107-93 minutes. It was released on 14th November 1925 in Silent and English intertitles languages. The film made a box office gross of $2 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Universal Pictures.
