The Prophecy is a 1995 English-language Action Crime film written and directed by Gregory Widen and produced by Joel Soisson under the banner of First Look Pictures in collaboration with Dimension Films. Some people lose their faith because Heaven shows them too little, says Thomas Daggett. But how many people lose their faith because Heaven showed them too much? Daggett nearly became a priest; now he's a cop. He may want to put religion behind him, but one morning a weird, eyeless, hermaphroditic corpse turns up. Suddenly he is on a path that will put him right in the middle of a war in Heaven. And once again, Heaven will show him too much: gore, blood, charred flesh, living corpses and much worse. Even central to the heavenly war effort is a young girl. This American Indian child has something Gabriel wants. And Gabriel is willing to kill her and anyone in his path - or even reanimate a corpse or two - to get it. Written by J. Spurlin. The prophecy stars Christopher Walken in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Elias Koteas, Virginia Madsen, Eric Stoltz, Amanda Plummer, Viggo Mortensen and Moriah 'shining Dove' Snyder. The music was composed by David C. Williams. Cinematography was done by Richard Clabaugh and Bruce Douglas Johnson and editing by Sonny Baskin. The film has a running time of 97 minutes. It was released on 5th August 1995. The film made a box office gross of $16 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Miramax.
