The Protector is a 1985 Cantonese-language Action Crime film written by James Glickenhaus and Edward Tang. The movie is directed by James Glickenhaus and produced by David Chan, Shek Hong-chan, Raymond Chow and Leonard Ho. The protector features Jackie Chan in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Danny Aiello, Roy Chiao, Moon Lee, Peter Yang, Sandy Alexander and Victor Arnold. The music was composed by Ken Thorne. Cinematography was done by Chang Yao-chu, Mark Irwin, Johnny Koo, Jimmy Leung, Ardy Lam and Gary Hoh and editing by Yao Chung-chang, Evan A. Lottman, Barbara Minor and Peter Cheung. The film has a running time of 91 minutes. It was released on 15th June 1985. The motion picture made a box office gross of $11 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Golden Harvest. Billy Wong is a New York City cop whose partner is gunned down during a robbery. Billy and his new partner, Danny Garoni, are working security at a fashion show when a wealthy man's daughter, Laura Shapiro, is kidnapped. The Federal authorities suspect that Laura's father is involved with Mr. Ko, a Hong Kong drug kingpin, so the NYC police commissioner sends the two cops to Hong Kong to investigate.
