The Sound Of Music is a 1965 English-language Biography Drama film written by George Hurdalek, Howard Lindsay, Russel Crouse, Ernest Lehman and Maria Von Trapp. The movie is directed by Robert Wise and produced by Robert Wise under the banner of Argyle Enterprises in collaboration with Inc. Based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, the film is about a young Austrian postulant who, in 1938, is sent to the villa of a retired naval officer and widower to be governess to his seven children. The sound of music features Julie Andrews in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, Eleanor Parker and Heather Menzies-urich. The screenplay is written by Ernest Lehman which is inspired from The Sound of Music by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner Irwin Kostal along with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein Ii.
