The White Countess is a 2005 English-language Drama History film written by Kazuo Ishiguro and directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant. Set in 1930s Shanghai, where a blind American diplomat develops a curious relationship with a young Russian refugee who works odd -- and sometimes illicit -- jobs to support members of her dead husband's aristocratic family. The white countess stars Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, Hiroyuki Sanada, Lynn Redgrave, Allan Corduner and Garth Tuckett. The music was composed by Richard Robbins. Cinematography was done by Christopher Doyle and editing by John David Allen. The movie has a running time of 135 minutes. It was released on 10th February 2005. The movie made a box office gross of $4 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Sony Pictures Classics.
