The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 English-language Adventure Family film written by Noel Langley, Florence Ryerson, Edgar Allan Woolf, L. Frank Baum, Arthur Freed, Irving Brecher, William H. Cannon, Herbert Fields, Jack Haley, E.y. Harburg, Samuel Hoffenstein, Bert Lahr, John Lee Mahin, Herman J. Mankiewicz, Jack Mintz, Ogden Nash, Robert Pirosh, George Seaton and Sid Silvers. The movie is directed by King Vidor, Norman Taurog and George Cukor and produced by Mervyn Leroy under the banner of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Dorothy Gale is swept away from a farm in Kansas to a magical land of Oz in a tornado and embarks on a quest with her new friends to the Wizard who can help her return home in Kansas and help her friends as well. The wizard of oz stars Judy Garland in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton. The screenplay is written by Noel Langley, Florence Ryerson and Edgar Allan Woolf which is inspired from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner Herbert Stothart along with Harold Arlen. Cinematography was done by Harold Rosson and editing by Blanche Sewell. The motion picture has a running time of 101 minutes. It was released on 15th August 1939 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. The Wizard of Oz was made on a budget of $2 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $26 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Loew's. At the 1940 Oscar Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Music, Original Song and Best Music, Original Score.
