True Crime is a 1995 English-language Crime Drama movie written and directed by Pat Verducci and produced by Jonathan Furie and Andrew Hersh. Mary Giordano is a bright, intelligent student who goes to a catholic school. She also has an addiction to mystery novels and detective magazines (hence the title of the movie), which inspire her to do her own detective work. When she starts snooping around on the case of a murderer of teenage girls, it gets her in hot water with her mentor Detective Jerry Gunn. But it also starts a team up with police cadet Tony Campbell. The two work together to find the murderer. But the closer Mary gets to solving the murder, the danger she puts herself in of being the next victim. Written by Pat McCurry. True crime features Alicia Silverstone in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Kevin Dillon, Bill Nunn, Marla Sokoloff, Michael Bowen, Ann Devaney and Joshua Schaefer. The music was composed by Blake Leyh. Cinematography was done by Chris Squires and editing by Gib Jaffe. The film has a running time of 94 minutes. It was released on 25th July 1996. True Crime was made on a budget of $55 million and at the box office it grossed only $16 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Trimark Pictures.
