Udta Punjab is a 2016 Hindi-language Action Crime film written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Chaubey. The movie is directed by Abhishek Chaubey and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Aman Gill, Sameer Nair and Madhu Mantena under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures in collaboration with Phantom Films. A story that revolves around drug abuse in the affluent north Indian State of Punjab and how the youth there have succumbed to it en-masse resulting in a socio-economic decline. Udta punjab features Shahid Kapoor in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, Satish Kaushik, Suhail Nayyar and Manav Vij. The screenplay is written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Chaubey. The music was composed by Amit Trivedi along with Benedict Taylor and Naren Chandavarkar. Cinematography was done by Rajeev Ravi and editing by Meghna Sen. The movie has a running time of 149-132 minutes. It was released on 17th June 2016. Udta Punjab was made on a budget of ₹47 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹58 crore. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Balaji Motion Pictures. At the 2017 Filmfare Awards It won an award for Best Actress (Alia Bhatt).
