Vanaprastham features Suhasini Maniratnam in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Mohanlal Viswanathan, Mattanoor Shankara Marar, Kalamandalam Gopi, Venmani Haridas, Kukku Parameshwaram and Venmani Vishnu. The screenplay is written by Shaji N. Karun, Raghunath Paleri, Dialogues: and Raghunath Paleri. The music was composed by Zakir Hussain. Cinematography was done by Renato Berta and Santosh Sivan and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad and Joseph Guinvarch. The motion picture has a running time of 119 minutes. At the 2000 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Actor (Mohanlal Viswanathan).
