The film stars James Stewart as former police detective John Scottie Ferguson, who has retired because an incident in the line of duty has caused him to develop acrophobia and vertigo, a false sense of rotational movement. Vertigo stars James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, Henry Jones, Raymond Bailey and Johnny Marlin. The screenplay is written by Alec Coppel and Samuel Taylor which is inspired from D'entre les morts 1954 novel by Pierre Boileau Thomas Narcejac. The music was composed by Bernard Herrmann.
