Vettaikaaran is a 1964 Tamil-language Drama motion picture directed by M. A. Thirumugam and produced by Devar and Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar under the banner of Devar Films. Babu (M.G.R.) is an estate owner and a hunter. He is forever in the forest, hunting animals, much to the annoyance of his mother. He meets Latha (Savitri), lost in the forest. He rescues her, and their friendship blossoms into love and marriage. In due course of time, Latha delivers a boy. The boy, Raja is extremely attached to his father. Meanwhile Plunderer Mayavan, desires Latha. To attain her, he makes Babu undergo untold miseries. He tricks Latha and Raja into the forest, and demands the papers of the estate. How Latha handles this situation - What is the fate of the child - How does the true identity of Mayavan reveal as the story progresses ?. Vettaikaaran features M. G. Ramachandran in the title role along with M. R. Radha, M. N. Nambiar and Savitri Kommareddy in supporting roles. The music was composed by K. V. Mahadevan. Cinematography was done by N. S. Varma and editing by M. A. Thirumugam, M. G. Balu Rao and M. A. Mariappan. The movie has a running time of 157 minutes. It was released on 14th January 1964.
