American idol features Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Ryan Seacrest. The series is based on Pop Idol. The music was composed by Julian Gingell along with Barry Stone and Cathy Dennis. Distribution rights for the series were acquired by Fremantle. The series is set in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, before and after the area's annexation by the Dakota Territory, and charts Deadwood's growth from camp to town.
