Gadag is a city in Gadag district, Karnataka, India. It has since 1873 been administratively part of the larger Gadag-Betageri urban complex. Area: 4656km. Exist as district since 1994 after the separation from parent district Dharwad. The city was previously called Kritapura. Gadag is an important centre of Kalyana Chalukya art as seen at the large Trikuteshwara temple. It was later expanded by Kalyani Chalukyas into a vast complex.
