Ghosi is a town and a nagar panchayat in Mau district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Ghosi is a city in the eastern part of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is located at 2607N 8332E / 26.11N 83.54E / 26.11; 83.54, and has an average elevation of 68metres (223feet). As of 2001's India census, Ghosi had a population of 35,833. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Ghosi has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 55%. In Ghosi, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age. The main source of people's income is agriculture and business. Languages used include bhojpuri, hindi and urdu. Ghosi was named Raja in 1535.
