About Gobardanga

Gobardanga (Bengali: ) is a town and a municipality under Habra police station of Barasat sadar subdivision in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is one of the oldest municipality of West Bengal. Go means 'world/earth', Bar means 'Greatest' and Danga means 'Place'. i.e. "Gobardanga" means "the greatest place on earth". It has strong historic background from the pre-independence era, i.e. jamindar bari, oxebow lake, site of probably the first widow marriage & Brhama samaj in modern India.
