Gollaprolu is a Municipality north-east of Pithapuram in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in south India, about 130km south of Vishakhapatnam and is on the rail line between Madras and Calcutta. The nearest city(25km) is Kakinada, Other than the stop at Gollaprolu, the nearest train stop (16km) is Samarlakota (also called Samalkot), the nearest air strip (45miles) is Rajahmundhry and the nearest airport (100miles) is Visakhapatnam (Vizag). Gollaprolu is a municipality and mandal headquarters. It got its first mandal parishad seat when it was introduced in 1987 under the then chief minister N.T.Rama Rao. Dr.Hemanadha Rao Koppula was elected as the first Mandal president. He served his term from 1987 to 1992. Though a headquarters, it did not have its own mandal office building until 2005, then it was built by the then mandal parishat president Sri Mogali Subrahmanyam (Chitti Babu). The Mandal of Gollaprolu had a population of 81,752 in 2005, and 102,170 in 2007....
