Harur(:'') is a town panchayat in Dharmapuri district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. There are two Revenue divisions present in Dharmapuri District one among them is Harur. Harur is rich in high quality black granites, which are present in huge quantities in this area. Black granites are exported to Europe and other places where there is a high demand for these types of granite. Harur is located at 1204N 7830E / 12.07N 78.5E / 12.07; 78.5. It has an average elevation of 350metres (1148feet). Harur is situated along the Salem and (via Harur) Chennai State Highway 18. As of 2001 India census, Harur had a population of 20,346. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Harur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 68%.
