Itarsi(Hindi: ) is a city in Madhya Pradesh sn central India. Itarsi is located in Hoshangabad District, south of the city of Hoshangabad. Itarsi is a commercial hub for agricultural goods, and is also famous for its railway junction. The Bori Wildlife Sanctuary and Tawa Dam are nearby. Itarsi got its name (that can be derived from its name itself) from Intt (brick) and rassi (rope) which used to be traded around the town. But now plywood factory has replaced "intt" and "rassi." Several industries are situated near the town including the ordnance factory and soya oil mills. The famous writer Harishankar Parsai and Vipin Joshi also belong to itarsi. India's only statue of any writer (Vipin Joshi) is stabled in itarsi. Itarsi is located at 2237N 7745E / 22.62N 77.75E / 22.62; 77.75. It has an average elevation of 304metres (997feet).
