Jamkhed is a census town in Ahmednagar district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated on the Ahmednagar-Beed State Highway, 78 kilometres from Ahmednagar. Jamkhed is located at 1843N 7519E / 18.72N 75.32E / 18.72; 75.32. It has an average elevation of 590metres (1935feet). As of 2001 India census, Jamkhed had a population of 27,691. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jamkhed has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 63%. In Jamkhed, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. The village Chondi, the birth place of Punyashlok Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar, is located in this taluka.
