Jhajjar district, Haryana was carved out of Rohtak district on July 15, 1997. Jhajjar is located at 2837N 7639E / 28.62N 76.65E / 28.62; 76.65. It has an average elevation of 220metres (721feet). As of 2001 India census, Jhajjar had a population of 39,004. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Jhajjar has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 61%. In Jhajjar, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. Jhajjar is predominantly inhabited by people from the Yaduvanshi Sainis, Yaduvanshi Ahirs and Jats who belong to the Hindu faith.
