Kondagaon is a district separated from bastar district on 24th january 2012 and formed as 27th district of Chhattisgarh state a municipality in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Kondagaon is located at 1936N 8140E / 19.6N 81.67E / 19.6; 81.67. It has an average elevation of 593metres (1945feet). As of 2001 India census, Kondagaon had a population of 26,772. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kondagaon has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 55%. In Kondagaon, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. Kondagaon lies on NH 30 and can easily be reached from Raipur or Jagdalpur. There are frequent buses travelling to these places and to smaller villages in the vicinity. Kondagaon is a manufacturing centre of handicrafts that are sold throughout India under the name of Bastar Art.
