About Lunawada

Lunawada is a town and a municipality in Panchmahal district in the state of Gujarat, India. The name Lunawada is derived from the Luneshwar Mahadev temple which is the temple of Lord Shiva. Lunawada is surrounded by water from all directions ( Not an Island! ), Panam river, Vasant Sagar, Kanka Talav, Veri River and Darkoli Talav and two mountains. Places that are must see include Luneshwar Temple, Ramji Mandir, Hanumaan ni Veri, Kakachiya Triveni Sangam, Panam Bridge, Panam River Check Dam, Fateh Baug, Fuvara Chawk,Indira Gandhi Stadium, Jahavar Garden, Kalka Mata ni Tekari and many more. Lunawada was established by the forefathers of Maharaja Vir Bhadra Singh as the state of Virpur after which it had been renamed to the state of Lunawada. Before the town was established, the area was ruled under another princely state Santrampur which was ruled by Puwar Rajputs.
