Mainpuri (Hindi: , Urdu: ) is a city and a municipal board in Mainpuri district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of the Mainpuri district and is situated to the north-east of Agra. Mainpuri is located at 2714N 7901E / 27.23N 79.02E / 27.23; 79.02. It has an average elevation of 153metres (501ft). As of 2001 India census, Mainpuri had a population of 89,535. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Mainpuri has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 64%. In Mainpuri, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
