Mudukulathur (Tamil: ) is a panchayat town in Ramanathapuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. A highly under-developed region of the state. Most of the families of this town and villages around are making their living out of farming and farm related activities,unfortunately that mainly depends on irregular seasonal rain and depleted ground water resources. More than one third of the population is living in poverty.Social harmony is very fragile because of recurring caste clashes.Educational levels of the youth of this town are below state average. There are no employment generating economical or industrial activities at the local level and this town lacks in leadership on socio-economical spheres. Bargaining or lobbying power of the local administration with the state government and its agencies are at best very limited to non-existent.There are no socio-economic institutions in this town or taluk.
