Nambiyur is a panchayat town and Panchayat Union in Gobichettipalayam Taluk, Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The town named after a small ruler "Nambi", who is mentioned in one of the Eswaran Kovil stone carvings. Nambiyur is located at 1122N 7720E / 11.37N 77.33E / 11.37; 77.33. It has an average elevation of 301metres (987feet). As of 2001 India census, Nambiyur had a population of 15,651. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Nambiyur has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 50%. In Nambiyur, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
