About Nehtaur

Nehtaur or Nihtaur is a town in Bijnor district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Nehtaur is the word that comes from " naya thaur" meaning a new place. It was named by Tyagi's who came from Ranthambore after fighting mughal rulers many years ago. Nehtaur is known for the high status of Tyagi residing there and was one of the Riyasats ( Royal Estates ) of Tyagi's. Nehtaur, Ratangarh and Seohara were the three Tyagi Riyasats in Bijnor. Some Tyagis were associated with the Parihar empire that arose in northern India in the 6th century and the Rathores of Marwar who succeeded it (after the last Parihar ruler, Nahar Rao Parihar, of Mandore, Marwar). These Tyagis were ministers and gurus to these kingdoms and often carried the titles of Rathore or Rao.
