Nellore (Telugu: ,Tamil: ,Urdu: ) is a city and headquarters of Amarajeevi Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District, formerly Nellore district.And it is the seventh largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Ancient name of Nellore was "Vikrama Simhapuri". Nellore is situated about 170 kilometres (110mi) from Chennai on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway and about 453 kilometres (281mi) south east of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the banks of the Penna river.
