Oddanchatram is a Municipality in Dindigul district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located in the base of the western ghats (the tail end of the Palani Hills) in South India. It lies on the highway between Madurai-Coimbatore and Dindigul-Palani. It has a population of more than 40,000, with considerable migrant population from surrounding villages. Since before independence, there has been a train service to Oddanchatram. The Madurai-Coimbatore trains pass through Oddanchatram. However, the train station is currently under renovations, so there are no trains passing through. According to the 2001 India census, Oddanchatram has a population of 24,135. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Oddanchatram has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 62%.
