Ponnamaravathy is a Town in Pudukkottai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Ponnamaravathy, is named after King Ponnar and his brother Amarar , who were kings of Ponnamaravathy area. They came from Sevalur, which belongs to the Veera Maravar caste, to save the people in Ponnamaravathy. Before that period, robbers attacked people, looting and killing them. Nattuckal is the head and resident to king and his brother. They were killed by the British. The place they were killed by the British now belongs to Ponnamaravathy. Where Ponnar was killed, the Nattuckal people have placed statue at the centre of road in front of Nattuckal. Amarar was killed in front of a police station, and there a temple has been erected at the side of the road.
