About Salboni ( Salbani )

Salboni (also written as Salbani) is a town with a police station in Medinipur Sadar subdivision of Paschim Medinipur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the location of a Reserve Bank of India currency printing press, and is the proposed site of a steel plant. During World War II Salboni was the site of an air base of the Royal Air Force, then named RAF Salbani. Salboni is located at 2236N 8711E / 22.6N 87.19E / 22.6; 87.19. It has an average elevation of 25metres (85feet). It is on NH 60. As per 2001 census, Salboni CD Block had a population of 165,193, out of which 84,247 were males and 80,946 were females. Growth of population in the 1991-2001 decade was 16.71 per cent. JSW Steel signed a pact with West Bengal government on 11 January 2007 to set up a 10million tonne steel plant in Salboni.
