In past it was the well known center of perfume trade.[1] As of 2001 India census,[2] Sikanderpur had a population of 21,790. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Sikanderpur has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 49%. In Sikanderpur, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. It is surrounded by Ghaghra river from north. Sikanderpur is famous for perfumes like Gulab Jal, Keora Jal, Jasmine oil, Rose oil and Attar. Several type of flowers are cultivated there.[3] There in Sikanderpur, the visiting place is Kila Ka Pokhra, Jama Masjid, Maa Jalpa-Kalpa Mandir, Karbala and more places. There is a sample of Hindu-Muslim unity as there is Saraswati Shishu Mandir (a RSS School) and Darul Uloom madarsa situated nearly. One more thing is that the famous Jama Masjid is situated beside Sangh (sanghat) Mandir. There is 9 mohallas as following: Milki, Baddha, Domanpura, GandhiMuhalla, Chandani Chowk, Mudiyapur, Mainapur and Pandeytola. The town area of Sikanderpur is titled 'Adarsh Nagar Panchayat' because of its cleanliness and good basic facilities.[citation needed] There is good facility for shopping, school, hospital/medical etc. It is well connected by Road from two nearest Railway Station (Ballia and Belthara Road) but worse condition of roads is a big threat to local passengers. It is 3538 km from Ballia railway station and approximate 2530 km from Belthara Road Railway station.
