The Name Udgir was derived from the saint Udagir Baba. As of the 2001 India census, Udgir had a population of 2,00,908. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Udgir has an average literacy rate of 71%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 63%. In Udgir, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age. Most people in Udgir are Maharastrians. The main source of income is Agriculture, and there is a famous dairy farm.
