China Cry: A True Story is a 1990 English-language Biography Drama film directed by James F. Collier and produced by Don L. Parker under the banner of Parakletus in collaboration with TBN Films. Drama set in the 1950s, based on a true story, about a young girl, Sung Neng Yee, who is brought as part of a wealthy Chinese family. She is eager to become part of Mao Tze Tung's new society, but soon becomes disenchanted by the economic misery the changes bring to her family. Before long, the authorities become aware of Neng Yee's feelings and she is taken to a labour camp, overn by the sadistic Colonel Cheng. Written by Jonathan Broxton. China cry: a true story stars Julia Nickson-soul, France Nuyen, James Shigeta, Julia Nickson, Russell Wong, Philip Tan and Elizabeth Sung. The screenplay is written by James F. Collier which is inspired from China Cry by Nora Lam & Irene Burk Harrell. The music was composed by Joel Hirschhorn & Al Kasha. Cinematography was done by David Worth and editing by Duane Hartzell & Ruby Yang. The motion picture has a running time of 101 min. It was released on 2nd November 1990. The movie made a box office gross of $4 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Penland Productions.
