Joey The Jab Singleton, was a professional boxer born in Kirkby, Liverpool, England. Born 6-6-1951. Joey was a light welterweight boxer and won the British title in a distinguished career as a professional. Nicknamed The Jab due to his fast hands and use of his very accurate left jab, Joey was a very talented pure boxer with power behind his fast jab and overhand right. Affectionately christened Joey the Jab, Singleton grew up in Kirkby and won a full set of titles as a talented amateur fighter – National Schools, Junior ABA and then senior ABA crown in 1971. He represented Britain a dozen times, winning gold medals at two multi-national tournaments before turning pro under revered fight guru Charles Atkinson. He then held the world record for youngest fighter and shortest amount of fights to hold the BBBofC Central Area light welterweight title after just 3 fights. He became British light welterweight champ and retained the Lonsdale Belt. A European title bid narrowly failed before he hung up his gloves.
