Murugadoss and produced by Fox Star Studios and A.r. Murugadoss under the banner of Fox Star Studios in collaboration with A.R. Murugadoss Productions. A gripping action thriller about a college girl Akira, who has grown up with the ideals of being self reliant. Her life spirals out of control when she becomes unwittingly involved in a crime involving four corrupt police officers. Akira features Sonakshi Sinha in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Konkana Sen Sharma, Raai Lakshmi, Anurag Kashyap, Konkona Sen Sharma, Nandu Madhav and Amit Sadh. The screenplay is written by Santha Kumar and A. R. Murugadoss which is inspired from Mouna Guru by Santha Kumar. The music was composed by IIFA Award winner Shekhar Ravjiani along with Vishal Dadlani, John Stewart Eduri and Vishal Shekhar. Cinematography was done by R. D. Rajasekhar and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. The film has a running time of 136 minutes. It was released on 1st September 2016. Akira was made on a budget of ₹32 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹26 crore.
