Gangster is a 2014 Malayalam-language Action Crime film written by Abhilash Kumar, Ahmed Sidhique and Abhilash S. Kumar. The movie is directed by Aashiq Abu and produced by Aashiq Abu under the banner of OPM. Akbar is a powerful figure of Mangalore underworld who shares his business lead with Mani Menon and Uncle Sam , two other prominent gangsters ruling the city. The city remains calm under them, until Anto, grandson of uncle Sam, and his foreign associate Tom, come up with a new idea of importing used vaccines from abroad at very low rates and selling them at higher price. Akbar, who is against the business of drugs opposes it. This causes Anto to turn against Akbar and he makes plans to kill him. In the attempt, Akbar gets injured badly and loses his wife, Sana. What follows is the comeback of Akbar to avenge his loss. Written by Nithin J. Gangster stars Mammootty in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Nyla Usha, Sekhar Menon, Aparna Gopinath, Alexx O'nell, Ashwath Bhatt and Favour Francis. The music was composed by Deepak Dev. Cinematography was done by Alby and editing by Saiju Sreedharan. It was released on 11th April 2014. Gangster was made on a budget of ₹1 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹61 lakh. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Aan Mega Media.
