Giant from the Unknown is a 1958 English-language Drama Horror film written by Ralph Brooke and Frank Hart Taussig. The movie is directed by Richard E. Cunha and produced by Marc Frederic and Arthur A. Jacobs. In the 16th century a small band of warriors from the Spanish Ptolemy Firello expedition in California mutinies. Led by one of Firello's lieutenants, a huge, depraved giant of a man known as Vargas, the group heads off into the mountains to search for gold and is never heard from again. Hundreds of years later, a lightning bolt frees Vargas from a state of suspended animation underground and sends him out to terrorize a rural mountain village. Written by Jeremy Lunt. Giant from the unknown stars Ed Kemmer in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Sally Fraser, Buddy Baer, Bob Steele, Morris Ankrum, Oliver Blake and Jolene Brand. The music was composed by Albert Glasser. Cinematography was done by Richard E. Cunha. The film has a running time of 77 minutes. It was released on 2nd June 1960. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Astor Pictures.
