Lifeboat is a 1944 English-language Drama War movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck and Kenneth Macgowan. In the Atlantic during World War II, a ship and a German U-boat are involved in a battle, and both are sunk. The survivors from the ship gather in one of the boats. They are from a variety of backgrounds: an international journalist, a rich businessman, the radio operator, a nurse, a steward, a sailor, and an engineer with Communist tendencies. Trouble starts when they pull a man out of the water who turns out to be from the U-boat. Written by Col Needham. Lifeboat stars Tallulah Bankhead, William Bendix, Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson, John Hodiak, Henry Hull and William Yetter Jr. The screenplay is written by Jo Swerling. The music was composed by Hugo W. Friedhofer. Cinematography was done by Glen MacWilliams and editing by Dorothy Spencer. The film has a running time of 96 minutes. It was released on 28th January 1944 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. Lifeboat was made on a budget of $1 million and at the box office it grossed only $1 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by 20th Century Fox.
