The Westerner is a 1940 English-language Drama Romance motion picture starring Gary Cooper, Walter Brennan, Doris Davenport, Fred Stone, Forrest Tucker, Paul Hurst and Ted Wells. Judge Roy Bean, a self-appointed hanging judge in Vinegarroon, Texas, befriends saddle tramp Cole Harden, who opposes Bean's policy against homesteaders. Burnett, Lillian Hellman, Oliver La Farge and Dudley Nichols and it is directed by William Wyler and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released.
