Aruvi is a political drama written and directed by Arun Prabu Purushothaman. This 2017 Tamil film features Aditi Balan in the lead role along with Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Shwetha Shekar, Shivada Nair, and Padmashri Mohammad Ali in supporting roles. Various established heroines like Nayanthara, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Shruti Haasan were approached for the role but none of them agreed. Hence the newcomer Aditi Balan bagged the role. Except for Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, all the cast members were debutantes. When an innocent girl Aruvi is suspected to be a part of a terrorist organization her family disowns her, when left alone she turns rebellious and decides to rancorously take on the people who made her life a living hell. The film was produced by SR Prabhu and S.R. Prakashbabu under their production banner Dream Warrior Pictures. The cinematography was done by Shelley Calist and editing was by Raymond Derrick Crasta. Music was composed by Bindhu Malini and Vedanth Bharadwaj and lyrics were penned by Kutti Revathi. The film was premiered in Shanghai International Film Festival and was released on 15th December 2017 worldwide. The movie was made on a budget of ₹1 crores and it collected ₹35 crores at the box office. It has a running time of 130 minutes and was appreciated by the critics.
