Cruel, Cruel Love is a 1914 English-language Comedy film written by Craig Hutchinson and directed by George Nichols and Mack Sennett and produced by Mack Sennett under the banner of Keystone Studios. Cruel, cruel love features Charles Chaplin in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Edgar Kennedy, Minta Durfee, Alice Davenport, Glen Cavender, Billy Gilbert and Chester Conklin. Cinematography was done by Frank D. Williams. The film has a running time of 16 minutes. It was released on 25th March 1914. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Mutual Film Corporation. This early Chaplin film has him playing a character quite different from the Tramp for which he would become famous. He is a rich, upper-class gentleman whose romance is endangered when his girlfriend oversees him being embraced by a maid. Chaplin's romantic interest in this film, Minta Durfee, was the wife of fellow Keystone actor, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle.
