Gaslight is a 1944 English-language Crime Drama film directed by George Cukor and produced by Arthur Hornblow Jr. under the banner of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Adapted by John Van Druten, Walter Reisch, and John L. Balderston from Patrick Hamilton's play Gas Light , it follows a young woman whose husband slowly manipulates her into believing that she is descending into insanity. Gaslight features Charles Boyer in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten, May Whitty, Angela Lansbury, Barbara Everest and Emil Rameau. The screenplay is written by John Van Druten, Walter Reisch and John L. Balderston which is inspired from Gas Light 1938 play by Patrick Hamilton. The music was composed by Bronis Aw Kaper. Cinematography was done by Joseph Ruttenberg and editing by Ralph E. Winters. The film has a running time of 114 minutes. It was released on 16th June 1944 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Gaslight was made on a budget of $2 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $4 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Loew's.
