Gully Boy, 2019 Hindi musical drama was directed by Zoya Akhtar and she produced the film along with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banners of Excel Entertainment productions and Tiger Baby. Production work was supervised by executive producer Nas. The screenplay was written by Zoya and Reema Kagti. The film which features Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead and Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz in supporting roles is a narrative of the struggles faced by an aspiring street rapper of Dharavi slums in Mumbai. The story was inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy. The music album had 54 contributors and was supervised by Ankur Tewari. The cinematography was done by Jay Oza and editing done by Nitin Baid. AA films along with Zee Studios International and Cinestaan Film Company have distributed the film. The shooting started in January 2019 and was wrapped up by April 2019. The poster was released on 1 January 2019 confirming the release date and a trailer released on 9 January 2019. In the 69th Berlin Film Festival held on 9 February 2019 it was selected for screening under Berlinale Special Section. The movie was released on 14 February 2019 acquired 4101 screens worldwide. When critics felt that the movie had similarities with the English movie 8 Mile, Zoya clarified that the reference point was that movie but denied the claims. Made on a budget of INR 40 crores, the movie collected INR 238.16 crores approximately at the box office, making it the 2019’s third highest grossing Bollywood movie. The film with a run time of 153 minutes was well received by the

audience.
